As you evaluate your options with breast augmentation surgery ("augmentation mammaplasty"), the first step is to meet with Miami breast implants specialist Dr. Mendieta in order to discuss your options. Some of the factors that you will need to decide upon are incision location, such as in the breast crease, around the nipple, or in the armpit. You will also need to select your preferred implant type, saline or silicone gel filled. Based on your individual needs and anatomy, our breast surgeon will create a personalized treatment plan for you.

Other factors include the shape, such as oval, round, or contoured; placement, above the breast muscle or under the muscle; and surface type, smooth or textured. Silicone gel breast implants are typically available only to those who are undergoing a breast implant revision procedure or women who are having breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery ("mastectomy").

Oftentimes, women who would like to regain a fuller, more youthful breast contour opt to combine a breast lift ("mastopexy") with their breast implant surgery. This procedure usually requires incisions that run from the nipple down to the breast crease and horizontally across (with varied lengths). Though in some cases where sagging is minimal, Dr. Mendieta may determine that the use of breast implants alone will be sufficient to lift the breasts.
