Breast Augmentation

I. (b) Scarless breast augmentations (TUBA).

You are less than one hour away from beautiful, natural, sexy breast. Traditional approaches with breast augmentation involve placing scars on the breast or in the armpits. Although these are good approaches they still leave you with two scars that can be very visible and tell-tell signs of augmentation.

There is however an alternative to those who want to remain natural and have a single inconspicuous scar that is placed far-far away from the breast. It is a new and rapidly evolving technique that is performed only by a handful of surgeons across the country.

The transumbilical breast augmentation leaves only one very small inconspicuous scar that is placed in your naval, and it is therefore far away from your breast. (No one will ever know). I know at first it may sound weird and perhaps even scary. But in reality, it's a terrific approach.

  • First of all, the recovery time is much quicker and easier, it is less painful than traditional augmentation with patients returning to work as quickly as 2-3 days (some have returned the next day).
  • Secondly, there is less breast trauma and therefore less bleeding.
  • Thirdly, there is only one small scar that is placed in an inconspicuous place that no one would ever suspect you had it done. As a matter of fact in can be placed through any existing scar you have on your body (i.e. Appendectomy scar, gallbladder scar. C-Section scar or any other scar that is on your abdomen).
  • Finally, the procedure takes less than one hour.

However, there is a caveat since the implant is above the muscle in order to obtain a very natural result you have to have certain criteria and therefore not everyone is a candidate.

The criteria are the following:

1. You cannot have any breast droopiness or ptosis. The reason for this is that if we are going through the belly button we can only augment the breast and not lift it. If you have any sagginess to your breast and an augmentation is performed without a lift, then you would develop the snoopy deformity - a very unattractive look.

2. You need to have enough breast tissue to cover the implant so that a natural look is achieved; this is true if the implant is to be placed above the muscle. The following philosophy is my own and that of my mentors, some surgeons may differ. I feel that the patient needs to have at least a 2 cm pinch in the area of the upper chest. If this is present then there is enough fatty tissue to cover the breast implant and allow for a natural look. If it is not present then there is a sharp demarcation line between the breast and the implant. In order to improve or avoid this problem then a submuscular placement of the implant is recommended, the problem with a Transumbilical approach is that a submuscular placement cannot always be guaranteed, therefore I like my patients to have that 2 cm pinch in order to solve the problem.
