Breast Augmentation Using Patient's Own Fat

Women who are interested in enlarging their breasts can typically choose between saline and silicone gel implants. Now, women who are interested in breast augmentation may also want to look into breast enlargement via fat transfer. As a Miami body contouring specialist, I am receiving more and more requests for this method of enhancement.

Breast Augmentation Via Fat TransferI provide numerous patients with more defined shapes using their own fat; and I do so by suctioning an area of the body to remove excess fat, harvesting the fat, and then transferring it to another region of the body to provide greater volume in that area. Typically, I utilize my "Highlight Liposculpting and Lipo Fat Transfer" 3-D approach specifically for buttocks enhancement. However, should a woman be interested in enhancing her breasts instead of her buttocks (or both!), she can do so without being exposed to the potential risks that are associated with saline and silicone gel implants.

The great thing about breast enlargement surgery by means of fat transfer is that I am able to reshape the breasts in a way that implants do not allow. There is no implant shifting with the fat transfer method, nor other complications that are related to implants (i.e., rippling, capsular contracture). Breast augmentation via fat transfer can also benefit a woman who has asymmetrical breasts, because the fat that is injected will absorb equally. This, in turn, will help to correct an unbalanced condition. Breast enlargement using the patient's own fat is also a good accessory procedure to the breast lift. It can help to provide natural-looking results, increasing volume as the patient's breasts also gain a more youthful appeal.

This procedure is known to stir some controversy, however, because people think that breast augmentation via fat transfer could cause calcification and likely interfere with biopsies. Although now, professionals are revisiting this procedure because the skin has become noticeably better on some patients, and the fatty tissue has become easier to read.

Some of the factors to consider regarding breast augmentation via fat transfer:

  • Because liposuction is a key step to breast augmentation via fat transfer, the cost is more expensive than breast enlargement with implants.
  • The fat absorption rate is a low percentage for breast enhancement, so although fat has a fabulous blood supply, there is a low degree of fat survival (butt enhancement and facial filling using fat transfer has a higher fat survival rate)
  • It is difficult to predict sizing when fat is used versus an implant. This type of technique will provide fullness, but will only be able to enhance the breasts up to a cup size.

Fat transfer can help individuals achieve amazing results, and this procedure in particular is just another way of showing the progression of plastic surgery and its growth over the last few years.
